2016 New Contract Tracker: Wide Receivers – Week 9

Week Nine was an interesting week. Most of the players who signed new contracts in the off-season either had an excellent game or a bad one. Usually, most of the players are on par with their tier, and a few players stand out positively and negatively.

It was tough to choose the Week Nine stud. Doug Baldwin had an excellent game on Monday night against the Bills, posting a line of six catches, for 89 yards. He also caught every pass thrown his way. Rishard Matthews also made a big impact for his team. He was thrown to ten times, the second most of any newly signed wide receiver, and caught six of them for 63 yards and two touchdowns. The Titans definitely got their money’s worth out of Matthews this week. Mohammed Sanu also played better than usual, catching five passes for 74 yards on seven targets. However, the stud of the week goes to Mike Wallace.

2016 New Contract Tracker: Pass Rushing Linemen (Week 8)

On a weekly basis, I will be evaluating pass rushing defensive lineman that signed some sort of contract in this offseason. Players on-field performance will be evaluated against the annual salary of their new contract. In terms of on-field production, I will be taking into account stats relevant to the defensive end position such as percentage of defensive team snaps played, tackles, tackles for loss, sacks and hurries. The basis for contract evaluation will be the APY of a given player’s contract.

New Contract Tracker: Quarterbacks and Interior DL

Recently, on a popular television show centered around the inevitable zombie apocalypse, the leader of a group of merciless men felt as though another group of people maliciously wronged him.  The leader waited, planned and plotted his revenge until he eventually captured and came face-to-face with his perceived enemy.

Feeling the need to make a lasting impression on his foe and show them who was truly in charge of this particular plot of land, the ruthless leader took a barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat and beat two different members of the opposition about the head until all that remained was a gooey pile of insect food.

While this man on the tv show is named ‘Negan’, I’m wondering if they should change it to Brady because Tom Terrific has been metaphorically bludgeoning defenses to death every Sunday since his return from the NFL’s suspended list.

2016 New Contract Tracker: Wide Receivers — Week 8

We’ve just hit the halfway point of the season. This is the time when players are evaluated for their first half performance, which is projected to their full season potential. It’s also a good time to see if the players who signed new contracts in the off-season are playing to the value which they were paid. A lot of the wide receivers who were recently inked have had up-and-down games. It’s hard to get a good picture of their performances when looking at them on a weekly basis. So let’s take a look at the best and worst performers of the first eight weeks.
