Xxplosive by Dr. Dre, Pete Carroll and Chip Kelly

I’m having a lot of fun writing the current chapter of the Caponomics: Management Theories book as I’ve been getting to dissect the two coaches in the NFL who I think are bringing in the next evolution of football, Pete Carroll and Chip Kelly. In my opinion, for the next fifteen to twenty years, these two will do for the NFL what Bill Belichick has done for the league the last decade and a half, a true trendsetter who has popularized the pass-catching running back role, the slot receiver, and the pass-catching, run-blocking tight end, which I go into detail on in the “Think Like A College Coach” chapter that I’m speaking of. The Punch: A Discussion of Geno Smith and Chan Gailey

It was very upsetting for me to see Geno Smith get punched in the face and break his jaw, which will result in him missing 6-10 weeks this season because IK Enemkpali doesn’t know how adults behave. I’ve got to take a second to address this, I’m 25 years old and I played football until I was 22, so I know what aggression is and I’ve been in enough fights in my life to understand them, but to also have seen some behavior that’s really quite terrifying. (If you want to skip the discussion on the Geno Smith punch and get straight to the salary cap talk, please scroll down until you see “Anyway…” in bold.) @ZackMooreNFL on Russell Wilson’s Contract

Man, no matter what deal the Seahawks gave Russell Wilson there would have been detractors, huh? Some people saying that Wilson is now the most overpaid player in sports, others saying that he didn’t get a record or market setting deal, so there’s something wrong with that for the fourth year pro with two Super Bowl appearances in his career.

I’m here to hopefully dispel all of that and just talk about the contract itself, through my analysis of it. If you want to see what I predicted back in early June, here’s the link, it could actually give you a solid base to get you thinking of how both sides may have been approaching the deal as some of what I discussed ended up in this contract. Using Historical Cap Data to Project Future Salary Caps

Well, I included this in the Justin Houston article I wrote last week, but I feel like it got lost in the article. As this is just an idea of mine, I’m really curious if other cap-heads think that these projections are logical and if they have anything they would change.

I’m also hopeful that this will spark some discussion in the industry and I believe that understanding exactly where the salary cap is going is something that every team in the NFL should be very concerned with. I find it to be such an important topic that it will have a chapter dedicated to it in the first book of the Caponomics series titled, Management Theories. @ZackMooreNFL Projects Dez Bryant’s Contract

If you enjoy the analysis in this article, please e-mail Caponomics @ gmail.com to join the e-mail list.

As of right now, Dez Bryant will be playing for the Cowboys on the $12.823 million franchise tag and would lose about $754,000 for each game he misses were he to hold out. After speaking with the great @Jason_OTC, the Wizard of OTC, he stated that it sounds like Bryant is looking for a deal worth $16 million per season and that his guess is that Bryant is looking for a deal worth $16 million per year, plus $50 million in guarantees, but he’s not sure on the length of the contract.

USA Today: Analyzing the 2014 Steelers Using #Caponomics Theories and Concepts

First, are the links to the articles. Second, the cover art for the Caponomics book. Third, a short message on an upcoming project, a bit of a public service announcement.

Steelers Wire at USA Today

The links attached are to a piece I did for Steelers Wire at USA Today last week before the holiday. It actually stems from the work I was doing during the spring when I thought that this book was going to include an analysis of the 2014 teams on top of the theories and the chapters on the 21 Super Bowl champion with the analysis of each of them.

My editor at Steelers Wire, Neal Coolong, had to split it into two parts because the length, but this is what my book after the 2015 season will look like as I will break down all 32 teams and explain why they were or were not successful due to the salary cap.
