2015 NFL Stock Down: Week 3

Every week during the season I’ll take a look back at the games and select three players who are entering important stages of their contract that could have hurt their upcoming negotiations with their play on gameday. In addition we will also look at one player signed in the offseason to a new contract that did not live up to his new contract.

Stock Down

Matt Forte– If you want to get another big contract at Forte’s point of his career you have to standout and Forte did nothing of the sort with Chicago. Granted he has nothing to work with but by no means did he look like a difference maker. Forte should ask for a trade given  the Bears current state of affairs.

Olivier Vernon– I have to give credit to one of our readers for pointing out Vernon last week so I thought it was fair to include him this week after another non-effort on Sunday. Vernon has provided the team no pass rush and no run support. If things don’t improve he’ll begin to see his snaps decline.

Colin Kaepernick– Kaepernick is scheduled to earn over $14 million next season but after the game he played on Sunday, passing for just 67 yards and 4 interceptions, he’s going to find himself on the unemployment line. Kaepernick has no immediate guarantees in his contract and the team will save over $9 million against the cap if they cut ties. He’ll cost himself $10 million if this play keeps up.

New Contract Disappointment Of The Week

Brandon Browner– The Saints faced one of the worst passing attacks in the NFL, but Browner got lit up by Ted Ginn and Greg Olsen. He was credited by PFF for giving up 139 yards on the day. He is one of a long list of disappointing signings made by the Saints in the last few years and likely hasn’t helped himself by openly talking about returning to Seattle one day.
