2015 NFL Stock Up Week 3

Every week during the season I’ll take a look back at the games and select three players who are entering important stages of their contract that may have helped their stock in upcoming negotiations with their play on gameday. In addition we will also look at one player signed in the offseason to a new contract that exceeded all expectations and provided exceptional value to his team. So let’s see who made the cut in week 3…

Stock Up

James Jones– Jones, who was cut by the Raiders and Giants this offseason, is playing terrific back in Green Bay. Jones had 139 receiving yards and a touchdown Monday night against the Chiefs. He’s on a minimum contract this year but should be doing enough to earn a new two or three year contract next season.

Adam Jones– Jones has been so effective as a Bengal and somehow flies under the radar as a quality defender in the secondary. He had another solid game against the Ravens this week and intercepted Joe Flacco early in the game to help set up the Bengals offense in Ravens territory for an eventual touchdown. There is no reason for him to not get a raise next year.

Walter Thurmond– The Eagles have decided to try Thurmond out at safety and he did a fine job against the Jets only allowing one catch and picking off a pass. The question with Thurmond is always health, but if he stays healthy and can continue to provide backend support he’ll score better than a one year deal in 2016.

New Contract Player Of The Week

AJ Green– Green signed a massive contract extension this summer and he lived up to his end of the bargain this week with one of those monstrous games he is capable of. Green brings a different dimension to the Bengals offense which was missing last year when he played with an injury. With 227 yards and 2 touchdowns, Green was as dominant as anyone at the position in recent memory.
