The Los Angeles Chargers officially became compliant with the 2023 salary cap with the restructuring of the contracts of EDGE rushers Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack opening up $25.99 million in cap room according to ESPN’s Field Yates
Bosa had $22.835 million of his salary converted to a bonus, dropping his 2023 salary cap number by $15.233 million to $15.776 million. Bosa’s salary cap number in each of the next two seasons will increase by $7.611 million. His cap is now $36.6 million in 2024 and $32.87 million in 2025. No vide years were added to the contract.
Mack had $21.553 million of his salary moved into a bonus that is prorated over two seasons. His cap number in 2023 dropped by $10.767 million. There was a corresponding increase in his 2024 cap figure by the same amount, bringing his salary cap number to $38.517 million.
The restructures of these two contracts along with the recent restructures of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams contracts created just under $40.4 million in cap room for the Chargers. The team is now $19 million under the 2023 salary cap. They now have the third worst cap position in the NFL in 2024.
