Washington Commanders kick off the NFL combine week with the release of veterans Carson Wentz and Bobby McCain.
The two roster moves create $28.49 million in cap savings and over $30.5 million in cash for the team. This also increases the Commanders’ cap space up to $35.4 million for the upcoming 2023 league year.
Wentz had been traded, multiple times, with the latest coming from Indianapolis to Washington for from three draft selections between 2022 and 2023, including receiving a 2022 2nd round pick for taking on the Wentz contract. Wentz did have an upcoming $10.4 million in vesting guarantees, including a $6.4 million roster bonus due on March 17, 2023. Washington will incur zero dead money on the Wentz release.
