Seahawks Release WR Tyler Lockett

The Seahawks have released WR Tyler Lockett, which was largely the expected outcome for the veteran wide receiver. Lockett, who had been with the Seahawks since 2015, had seen his productivity drop the last two years while his salary cap number this year ballooned to $30.95 million. Releasing Lockett frees up $17 million in both cash and cap for the Seahawks, leaving the team with $13.895 million in dead money from prior bonuses paid to Lockett.

Lockett had a great run with the Seahawks earning two contract extensions from the team. There were discussions about moving on from him last season, but Lockett agreed to a $4 million pay cut to remain with the team in 2024 with the expectation they might revisit his contract in 2025.

The Seahawks should now have about $33 million in cap room after all of the cuts they have made the last two days. That number ranks 20th in the NFL. They rank 6th in the NFL in dead money at $32.6 million.
