Saints Restructure 3; Create $13.7M in Salary Cap Space

The Saints have restructured the contracts of G Cesar Ruiz, EDGE Carl Granderson, and DT Khalen Saunders to gain $13,735,530 in salary cap space for 2025.

Ruiz came into 2025 with a salary cap charge of $12.25 million. The Saints reduced his salary to the minimum and turned the difference into a $7.98 million signing bonus. The move opened up $6.384 million in cap room. His cap number in each remaining season will increase by $1.596 million. Ruiz’ 2025 cap number is now $5.866 million and $14.196 million in 2026.

Granderson had an $11.73 million cap charge in 2025 which has now been reduced to $6.482 million, a savings of $5.248 million. His salary was dropped to the minimum and the difference converted to a $6.56 million bonus. His cap number in future years will increase by $1.312 million. His 2026 cap number is now $18.06 million.

Saunders, who is in the final year of his contract, had his roster bonuses and $2.1 million of base salary converted to a bonus. His cap number dropped from $4.6 to $2.5 million. The team also added another void year for cap purposes. His cap number in every void year will increase by $525,882. His contract expires next season so if he is not extended his dead money will now increase by $2.1 million.
