Contract Notes

LT Tyron Smith signed an 8 year, $97.6 million contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys on July 30, 2014. Smith, who had two years remaining on his rookie contract, received a $10 million signing bonus.  His 2014 and 2015 salaries are fully guaranteed to bring the full guarantee of the contract to $22.118 million. Smith’s 2016 salary can also become fully guaranteed. $500,000 in yearly salary is tied to participation in workouts. On March 9, 2015 Smith converted $10 million of his base salary to a signing bonus to create $8 million in cap space. In 2016 Smith converted $9 million of base salary to bonus money for salary cap relief. On February 21, 2017 Smith converted $8.725 million of his base salary to a signing bonus to provide the Cowboys with $6.98 million of cap relief.

Tyrone Smith restructured his contract on March 14, 2016 converting $9 million of his $10 million base salary to a signing bonus. The move created $7.2 million in cap room in 2016 while adding $1.8 million to the next four years cap charges.

The Cowboys converted $8.9 million of Smith's 2020 salary into a bonus. The move creates $7.12 million in cap room and increases the cap numbers in the final three years of Smith's contract by $1.78 million per year. The team also added a void year for 2024 to lower the cap charges in 2020.

The Cowboys converted $8.9 million of Smith's 2021 salary into a bonus to create $6.675 million in cap space. The move will increase his cap charge by $2.225 million in each of the final years of the contract.
