Contract Notes

Ryan Tannehill was traded to the Titans on March 16, 2019. In order to facilitate the trade the Dolphins renegotiated Tannehill's existing contract. As part of the renegotiation the Dolphins deleted the 2020 league year from the contract and reduced the salary in 2019 from $18.75 to $7 million with another $5 million available in incentives. Of the $7 million, $6.75 million is guaranteed including a $5 million signing bonus paid by Miami. The Titans are responsible for $2 million in regular season salary, $1.75 million of which is guaranteed, and the incentives if earned.

Ryan Tannehill signed a four year contract extension with the Miami Dolphins worth $77 million in new money.  The contract contains $21.5 million fully guaranteed upon signing. The guarantee is made up of an $11.5 million signing bonus and his 2015 and 2016 base salaries. Tannehill's 2017 salary is guaranteed for injury, with $3.5 million becoming fully guaranteed on the 5th day of the 2016 League Year and the balance becoming fully guaranteed on the 5th day of the 2017 League Year. $5.525 million of his 2018 salary is also guaranteed for injury and becomes fully guaranteed on the 5th day of the 2018 League Year. Miami increased his 2015 cap charge by $842,477 with the extension but decreased his 2016 charge by $4.515 million.

based on multiple reports Tannehill restructured his contract on March 14, 2018. Currently we are estimating that he converted $16.685 million to a signing bonus, saving the Dolphins about $11.1 in 2018 cap space while adding $5.56 million to his 2019 and 2020 salary cap charges. We will update when we confirm the actual amount.
