James Carpenter signed four year contract with the Jets on March 15, 2015. Carpenter received $5 million fully guaranteed, made up of his 2015 base salary, a $2.5 million signing bonus, and a $1 million roster bonus. I am estimating that the roster bonus is prorated against the cap. In 2016 if Carpenter is on the roster on the 3rd day of the year he will earn an additional $2.5 million in guarantees. From 2016-2018 he can earn 250,000 in gameday active roster bonuses. Per ESPN’s Field Yates, Carpenter converted $3.69 million of his 2016 salary to a signing bonus. The move creates $2.46 million in cap space in 2016 and adds $1.23 million in cap to each of his remaining two years.
