Contract Notes

On April 15, 2019 Adam Thielen signed a 4 year extension worth a base value of $64.8 million.  The contract includes $14.105 million full guaranteed at signing; and $33 million total guarantees.  Thielen received a $9 million signing bonus, $4.3 million roster bonus (due 4/17) and a guaranteed salary in 2019.  Thielen's 2020 base salary is guaranteed for injury only at signing; but vests into a full guarantee on the 3rd day of the 2020 league year.  Also on the third day of the 2020 league year Thielen will receive a $5 million roster bonus.  in 2021, $9.095 million of Thielen's base salary is guaranteed for injury only at signing; but vests into a full guarantee on the 3rd day of the 2021 league year.  Thielen can earn up to $100,000 ($6,250 per game active) in roster bonus pay in 2019 & 2020; and up to $500,000 ($31,250 per game active) in roster bonus pay in 2021-2024.  Thielen can also earn $100,000 workout bonus in each year of the contract.  Thielen can earn salary escalators for 2022-2024 based on receiving performance (Details unknown).

Thielen converted $10 million of his 2021 salary to a signing bonus to create $7.5 million in cap space. His cap number will increase by $2.5 million in each of the following three seasons.

On March 16, 2022 Thielen restructured the payment mechanisms in his contract. His overall salary remains the same but the team increased the salary tied to per game roster bonuses as part of the new contract. Thielen received $13.3 million in full guarantees and $18.3 million in injury guarantees as part of the new contract. He also received a $9 million signing bonus. IF Thielen is on the Vikings roster on the 3rd day of the 2023 league year his entire salary for 2023 will be fully guaranteed. The Vikings added a void year for salary cap purposes. The new contract created $5.16 million in cap space in 2022.
