To reach those numbers it is likely that the Chiefs converted almost all of Mahomes allowable compensation in 2025 into a signing bonus. The conversion, which should total $47.745 million will create $38.196 million in cap room for the Chiefs. Mahomes’ cap number rises by $9.59 million in each future year and his cap number next year should now be $78.2 million.
Jones likely had his $15 million roster bonus converted into a signing bonus for cap purposes. That conversion would lower Jones’ cap number in 2025 by $11.25 million. His cap number next year would increase by $3.75 million to $44.85 million. His cap number in 2027 and 2028 should also rise by $3.75 million.
