DE Chris Long signed a four year contract extension worth $48.2 million with the St Louis Rams on July 31, 2012. Long received $23.55 million in full guarantees, which was made up of his 2012 and 2013 base salaries with no bonuses given at the time of the extension. Long’s $13.2 million salary in 2014 was guaranteed for injury only and would become fully guaranteed if on the roster five days after the 2012 Super Bowl. In 2015 and 2016 he will receive a $2 million roster bonus if on the roster on the 3rd day of the League Year.

In September of 2013 Long converted $6 million of his $13.2 million base salary into a prorated bonus to provide the Rams with salary cap relief.

On December 12, 2013 Long moved $200,000 of his 2013 base salary into a 2014 guaranteed roster bonus to give the Rams the cap space needed to finish the 2013 season.

On September 3, 2014 Long converted $3 million of his 2014 base salary into a prorated bonus to create $2 million in cap space for the Rams. As part of the restructure Long reduced his 2015 base salary by $1 million and he will instead receive that money in March in the form of a roster bonus due on the 3rd day of the League Year.
