Since Rex went to Buffalo I’ve been following the Bills along with Jets in AFC East. I have to say I disagree with you on Tyrod. Pocket presence needs improvement but he’s only started 7 games in his career and he is 5-2. As a runner he is elusive and dynamic. As a passer he is surprisingly accurate and deadly accurate on the deep ball (plus 30+ throws) which he has nailed to several receivers this season. Over 7 starts he has only 4 int but 3 came against Pats in wk2.
He’s not a rookie, but he is the most promising new young QB in the league because I’ve seen him do it consistently from preseason through reg season. Like McCoy and Watkins when healthy I believe Tyrod has equal playmaking ability and unlike a Geno Smith the maturity the position he plays demands. I only hesitate to say he has potential to become an NFL top 16 QB because he has not proven he can stay healthy as a smaller QB like WIlson or Brees.
Obviously a huge test for Tyrod comes tonight but I think Rex may have finally found his QB.

Jason on next podcast or on the site can we get some Jet specific insight from on where the team is now and where they should go in the offseason? After 10 games I believe I’ve seen enough to know the Jets near and long term prospects are looking dire.
-It’s clear the 2yr Idzik run is still devastating this team. 1st and 3rd rd picks Milliner and McDougle were healthy scratches yesterday against a struggling secondary while undrafted Marcus Williams played. Last season Idzik resigned Cumberland, traded picks for Harvin and extended Kerley in season which were all an utter waste of cap space I was critical of at the time. IK, Reilly, Jalen Saunders, Oday, Milliner,McDougle, Amaro, Winters,Geno Smith are not on team, out of the league or Bowles has no confidence in. Richardson is only standout awaiting another suspension.
-McCag/Bowles-I never wanted Rex gone but it’s obvious we don’t know if other than style Bowles is any better. You have to draft well in this league period. Right now Devin Smith is looking as lost as Stephen Hill. in year one it’s clear Williams,Devin Smith and Mauldin will not have impact of Bills 2nd rd Darby or 5th rd Karlos Williams. Offensively the 3 most important Jets this season Fitz,Marshall and Ivory are all upcoming free agents. Mo Wilkerson will NOT accept a penny less (nor should he) than what Dareus got because he is the Jets best player period and should have been signed already. GM did not address punt return which Idzik failed to do and why nobody is killing the GM for signing Ridley is beyond me. Why sign a RB that can only help you by week 9??? The dropoff at RB when Ivory is hurt has cost us games.
-The fact that Pace,Colon, Revis, Cro,Mangold, Ferguson,Brandon Marshall and Harris are all 30yr old+ plus players logging major minutes this season with no capable backups on roster which Bowles trusts is major problem. Worse still putting the tag or resigning Mo will force Jets to make some tough calls as they need to resign Fitz(even as back up) and Ivory even with injury history.

    • Will try to do a state of the Jets this week.

I was annoyed at Maccagnan at the start of the season for not saving a little cap money for the future.
He didn’t have to spend all that he did.
He could have not signed Cromartie.
Now they will be squeezed cap wise.

Plus, while its too early, aside from Leonard Williams, this looks like another top to bottom bust draft class. Just like the last 6 years.
2 good players (Richardson & Wilkerson), , Williams, and a few more in 7 years.
Horrible drafting. It will take 3 years at least to recover, and probably 4, assuming 2-3 good players a year.

Maccagnan signing Cro was supporting his coach Bowles who coached Cro and 1yr insurance against Milliner. As it turns out Milliner got hurt again and now that he is healthy Bowles have no confidence in Milliner,McDougle or Walls all corners who played last year. If you don’t sign Cro the Jets into the season with Dougle ,Walls or undrafted Williams opposite Revis which can’t happen or you move Skrine out of the slot.
Maccagnan get’s a pass imo. He added Skrine,Fitz and Marshall through trade or FA and despite flaws they’ve helped this team. Ridley is the head scratcher, you’ve got to sign a healthy back going into season with so many out there.

I see your point, but Cro is making a lot of money. Had they saved that, and rolled it forward (which they could do) it could be used to pay Wilkerson.

Wow…Coples just got cut. My guess is his agent or Coples complained of no playing time. If Jets exercised his option year maybe they don’t want to risk him being injured if he is not going to contribute much anyway. If option year worth 7 mil is on table I expect he’ll clear waivers and probably wind up in Buffalo with Rex. I think Mario Williams being cut this offseason is a certainty and Rex will be looking for replace that hole with a few guys.
